Proud…to be… Canadian?

You know what I find funny?

Opening Ceremonies, Feb 12/2010

It’s that the only time people truly want to express their patriotism towards their country… is during the Olympics.
Yes, it may be the most important sporting event in the world and I realize it’s on Canadian soil… but in my opinion it takes more than games and cheering on the teams, to entirely consider yourself a patriotic Canadian.  Of course being a cheerleader for Canada is important, I’m not saying it isn’t, but I think what a lot of people don’t realize is what the joys of being a Canadian are all about.
Being a Canadian, to me, isn’t about hockey, or beer (although some commercial advertisement may say otherwise) it’s about embracing everything Canadian to the core.  From stellar independent musicians… to the acts that made it big.  To the actresses and actors that started out on the streets of Toronto… to the multi-million dollar movies they now portray.
It’s about enjoying the cold, and staying active in the snow; it’s about enjoying a good book on the dock at the lake and listening to the wildlife; and it’s about meeting people from all over & learning not to judge.
It doesn’t take much to be a Canadian; obviously you just need to be born here, but to fully embrace the Canadian lifestyle?  It takes all of the above…. and more.

I too will be Cheering on every Canadian throughout the Olympics…. and I will continue to wear the colours beyond February 28th… because I love my heritage, and I love my flag; and I also love the colour red!

GO CANADA GO!!!
